RE: Query on BS5950 post processing design

Please do not use the Steel Designer for BS 5950 design. Use the batch mode instead. The answers below pertains to the batch mode of design.

Answer to the First Query:

STAAD uses Annex B to calculate the value of pb, which is substituted into the relevant equations of clause 4.3.6.4 to calculate the Buckling Resistant Moment. Annex B is applicable to all type of standard sections and is not limited to Tapered or Haunched I, H or Channel Section members.

Answer to the Second Query:

In the batch mode design, you need to specify the TRACK 4 parameter and the relevant DFF and DJ1/DJ2 parameters to invoke the serviceability check. The serviceable load cases can be selected by using the LOAD LIST command.
