Hi,
The criteria governing the capacity of Tension members are based on:
1) Design Strength due to Yielding in Gross Section
2) Design Strength due to Rupture of Critical Section
3) Design Strength due to Block Shear
Out of the above three, Block Shear is not checked by default. This check is made optional (by DBS parameter) because it requires complete connection detail in advance to supply AVG, AVN, ATG and ATN parameters.
But if you need to check the same, the value of DBS can be specified as 1, along with additional design parameters AVG, AVN, ATG, and ATN for that member which is to be checked for block shear.
