Difference in reactions on exposure to -ve and +ve temperature loads

Dear fellow members,

After exposing my steel structure to -ve and +ve axial temperature loads, I am getting a big difference in base reactions. Is it logical ? To which extent these should differ. I would request conceptual explanation.
