RE: Concept shear reinforcement

The screen capture below shows the shear distribution across Section 1 of 17C-1 for the governing load combination Factored LC: 1.2D + 1.6L + 0.5Lr.

The average or resultant shear across the section is -218 kips and the peak shear -63.6 kips/ft. If the peak shear stress is used, the program would design for a total shear of -63.6 kips/ft*11.375 ft = 725.2 kips. The vertical shear used to design the strip is -223.4 kips.

The web page discusses why RAM Concept may design more shear reinforcement than expected. Note a shear design check is completed at each section even those that are between the face of support and the code required critical section location (distance "d" from support face).
