RE: RAM Concept - AS3600 Service Design Program Glitch

Hi Karl,

Thanks for getting back to me and clearing the procedures in each Pass.

However the code implementation (AS3600 CL9.4.3.2) may be slightly incorrect. The reinforcement calculated using this clause can be distributed between each each layer, top and bottom layer of a slab, in a particular direction. This is confirmed within the AS3600 Commentary (2014) by stating "...with the reinforcement shared between steel layers close to each surface of the slab."

Therefore I think for the 'Code Minimum Design Ruleset,' there should be the placement option of sharing this steel between each layer. Currently this is not an option and RAM Concept will add this rebar to one face only. For example, let's saying CL9.4.3.2 gives a quantity of 720mm^2/m of 275mm thick slab and I've provided N12-200 (560mm^2) in each face so total of 1120mm^2 in one direction. Technically the design is sufficient but RAM will try and add reo in one face because it doesn't recognise that this reo can be distributed between the two layers.

Does the ACI shed any light on this topic of Shrinkage and Temperature effects?
