I am having this exact same issue with a model I am working on. My issue is I am modeling drop panels instead of drop caps, therefore I do not want to trim off the depth of the drop cap for the flexural calculations. I tried to change the cross section slope but that did not seem to really help. Is there anything else I can do to alleviate this issue? I can upload my model is that will help.
