I am not sure if I fully understood the question. Are you referring to these additional nodes marked in the picture below ? If so, then it is correct that since these are not part of the meshing for the top trapezoid, there would not be connectivity at these locations. However considering the fact that the nodes right next to these are common nodes between the two meshes, connectivity should still be pretty OK.
