I am designing an HSS steel frame to provide support for a new glass storefront.
The design consists of one lateral HSS member & one HSS on either side. The top of the columns will be connected to the underside of a W21X44 girder beam using a vertical sliding connection to allow for thermal expansion/contraction. The structure is designed to resist only the lateral wind pressure and to support the weight of a metal stud wall above the lateral HSS member.
Beam #2 & #3 are one column, Beam #4 & #5 represents the other column. I assigned an MY & MZ release to either end of Beam #1, which is the lateral member, to create a pinned-pinned connection between the lateral member to the columns. For the columns, I assigned a pinned connection at the lower node of Beam #2 and Beam #4, and I assigned FX, MX, and MY releases to the nodes at the top of Beam #3 & Beam #5.
Is this correct? If not, how should I apply the releases?
