After modelling and loading assignment on steel shelter structure. A Finite Element Plate was assigned for its foundation.Modulus of sub-grade reaction (Ks ) was assumed as Bowles’ equation as,
Ks = 40 (SF.) qa
Where SF. = Safety Factor = 2.50 to 3.00
Qa = Allowable soil bearing capacity KN/m2.
Foundation assignment was as follows,
however, the foundation output was shown as below.
May be due to some loading eccentricity ,
• Compressive stress of 60.142 Kn/m2 was found and still within an allowable stress,however,
• Tension stress of 0.042 Kn/m2.had been occurred on soil in which It is not allowed ,isn’t it ?
when i assign the compression only option, the results varied as follows.
How could it show the Tension value (-29.692kN/m2) after i assign a compression only spring ? The displacement values also got higher as well when i assign the compression only spring option.
How to deal with this circumstance ?
Please help.
Thanks in advance.
