HI, shany,

I also had the similar problem in daily modelling, and i am sharing what i have figured out; and which may help to figure out these problem in SS5.

Problem:

Whenever we put a command of two different lateral load analysis, just as we do for

  1. Two different perform analysis command for two different directions and separate them by change command
  2. Similar to previous, for iterative analysis like tension and compression member assigned there.

-  We face these problems.

What STAAD actually does is, when you assign a new PROPERTY to members after adding a CHANGE command, STAAD write PROPERTY assignment command to just below to CHANGE command. Just like below

*

CONSTANTS

MATERIAL STEEL ALL

*

MEMBER PROPERTY AMERICAN

1 TO 4 TABLE ST W14X43

5 TO 8 TABLE ST W14X48

9 10 TABLE ST TUB40404

*

*

DEFINE IBC 2006

ZIP 92887 I 1 RX 3 RZ 4 SCLASS 4 TL 12

SELFWEIGHT 1

*

LOAD 2 EX

IBC LOAD X 1

PERFORM ANALYSIS

CHANGE

MEMBER PROPERTY AMERICAN

11 TO 13 TABLE ST W6X20

*

LOAD 3 EZ

IBC LOAD Z 1

PERFORM ANALYSIS

CHANGE

*

LOAD 1 DL

SELFWEIGHT Y -1 LIST ALL

Solution:

Until Bentley team provide solution for we analyst can do one thing.

Just Adjust Yourself With Situation.

Follow step by step procedure after you have added CHANGE command in your model.

1.DO NOT assign a new property to members directly from ‘add new property dialog box’.

2. Rather first Add the property in file.

3.And then assign from different dialog box from main window, as shown below.

** Now, first the member property definition will continue the property command flow, and then assignments also will get follow the command.

I think this works better.
