It looks like you are already getting some help through a service request regarding the crashing. To answer the original question, the CONNECT edition is the latest in a release cycle. 14.07 was the last "V8i" release, 15.0 is the first in the next generation CONNECT editions. The software itself has a slightly different look and includes the ability to associate your models with projects, but it's not otherwise different from V8i in any major way.
